It was not until 1980, however, that we began selling our merchandise wholesale to gift stores. In 1985 we started wholesaling our own Crystal Oil Candle line, these were similar to candles I had made and sold through our own stores from 1974 to 1980. Then in 1986, when we moved our location to the Catskill Mountains, we changed our name to Catskill Mountain Crystal.
We
are and always have been a small business. There are currently only 3 of
us, including myself (as owner). Lori and Carol have been working with me
seventeen plus years. We all share the work from glassblowing, answering
the phone and packing and shipping. I am getting old and have thirty-three
years of experience in the glass business.
In order to enlighten you on the quality of our product, I will briefly
describe to you the process and care that goes into the making of our
Crystal Oil Candles. First, candles (made out of Pyrex scientific glass
rods and tubes) are hand-shaped and blown into candle shapes. We then add
the drips by melting glass to the outside of the candle. After this
process is finished, they are annealed (heated to 1,084 degrees
Fahrenheit) in a kiln to relieve any stress that has built up during
working the glass. Before the Crystal Oil Candles are shipped out, we
inspect each one for any cracks or blemishes. If the candle passes, it is
then individually boxed with wicks, funnels and instructions. Because they
are handmade by individual glassblowers, each candle is unique — you
will find that no two candles are exactly alike. Over the years we have
seen many copies of our Crystal Oil Candles. They almost always sell for
less than ours and the quality is usually very poor. You will always find
Catskill Mountain Crystal Oil Candles to have thicker and better quality
glass than others on the market today. Our Candelabras are all signed and
dated.
Our goal has always been simple, to supply people with good quality products that they like. If for any reason you are not satisfied with our Crystal Oil Candles, please return them to us, or contact us.
We will be happy to help you.
